Rocking Jingle Bells or Jazzin or well… yeah. Piano is awesome!
Not sure what to call this version of jingle bells… Is it more jazz or blues or rock? You decide!
This is for all the intermediate to advanced players who have been asking for something a little bit more challenging, otherwise I would normally break this lesson down into smaller steps. See if you can steal a few of my voicings for chords!
Outline:
The first half is a little reserved with some jazz voicings.. but not for long!
The second half has a walking bass line in the left hand with the right hand embellishing the melody quite a bit with some extra blues notes.
At the end I’ve attached a blues lick ending walking down from C, Bb, A, Ab, G back to C while the right hand trys to solo like crazy.
And then the final chord: C13#11 (C E G Bb, D F# A)

Hi Chris,
you left hand is off the hook on this tune……
I always try to follow your hands on my keyboard
after I watch you a few times ………..
I can almost keep up with your right hand in parts,
but your left hand ……….it’s
is jumping around a lot …you make it seem easy …
when the tempo picks up that bounce between octaves
and that stretch out from pinky to thumb is difficult
to keep accurate ,, the walking bass makes it sound like
modern swing /boogie
the last jazz cord in the song is massive kool
that C 13 # 11 …is it used only it at the end of a song ?

Hey John,
C7#11 sounds great at the end of most bluesy rock tunes…
but sometimes in the middle of jazz tunes as well. Its tough to place elsewhere.
I’d look for it in some of the new real books.
A GOOD VOICING FOR C7#11:
Play C & Bb in your LH and a D major triad in your right hand.
Thanks!
Chris
what the heck.. i got a long way to go before i could ever play like that.. damn .. you sure have good good hands… spoil them.. always use moisturizers for them.. and don’t wet them when they’re tired from playin great great tunes…
keep it up Chris… the music world needs you…

Chris, I’m not an advanced player nor can I read sheet music, what’s the chance you could add a broken down version of this for us that can’t figure this out?
Thank Baylor

Thanks, sounds awesome by the way!
Question Chris…
The C voicing in Jingle Bells is EGAD which is real nice…I am unclear as to the F voicing.
Can you provide a few options on how to voice an F chord so that it does not interfere with the medley yet does not sound muddled(too low)? I don’t have a great stretch.
I find that the same EGAD could work (7936 with hitting the F down low) but it doesnt sound good
The G7 voicing would be helpful also.?
Thanks! I’m a newcomer to your site but love what I am seeing…
Make sure to go to christmaspianolessons.com for the full christmas lessons Vin!

I just came across your videos on Youtube. Thanks for creating an excellent, education, and entertaining resource.
I loved your “jingle bells rock/jazz” version. Do you have a notation/music sheet for it? Would really appreciate it to learn along.
Thanks
